SEM Scholarship Update: and or, a video on how to blow up a water bottle

Friday, July 11, 2008

Hello my dear friends,

I'm happy to report that you preformed marvelously in helping me try to win the SEM competition. However, we just fell short of the goal of making it into the final round of 5.

I got 7th place out of 31 entries receiving over 1,000 visits which is pretty darn remarkable considering that I literally have no internet audience save the loyal friends (who I love) which follow me here and on facebook. Apparently, I only have a fraction of subscribers to my rss feed as compared to the overall winner of the competition who has over 3,000 subscribers (I have 1% of that number), so it is truly remarkable that an audience of my size (YOU) could propel me to such great heights of a competition where I am competing with others who already have that built in advantage. I am seriously so deeply thankful for your support.

While I am not really one to believe in "moral" victories because I can be super competitive, I really still feel like I have won in a way because of the exposure I have gotten and connections I have/will receive within my industry (SEO industry). Thank you so much for that.

Also, as I'm sure many of you have noticed my posting frequency has been down recently and that is mainly because I was hoping that you would come to my site and visit my blog post on Marketing Pilgrim for the competition.

And so I'm happy to report that moreburritos.com is now back to its regularly scheduled program of random stuff, inspiring stories and things that will make you laugh.

Below is an oldie but goodie a video of Team America trying to blow up an impostor Nalgene. (AJ and I are on camera, Eleanor and Courtney are behind the blast protection shield). Enjoy!

Mike, it was so much fun for my family to get a taste of what you do and support you in this competition. I think you placed really well overall, and I'm really proud of you.

Hey dude!
As I told you in person, props for your accomplishment--well done. I'm at work right now, so I can't watch the video, but I think I will when I get home. And by the way, super classic photo of Eleanor and C-Pat. I love the intense shot of Tom Brady on the TV in the background.

Excellent work, Mike! Mayhaps you will win the competition next time around (after some time to increase your readership).

I loved the video, too. It looks more like you melted the bottle rather than exploding it. I'd have gone for an M-80 (which is a quarter stick of dynamite) to do that job.
Thanks Stephen!

Melted/explode whats the difference? The bottle was tossed into the waste bin of history either way.
It's so great that you really put your mind to things and don't give up. The competition, for example. Another example would be the exploding the water bottle task. Congrats on destroying that fake. It was a riot to watch!
I am glad to see you got your protein this morning! Thank you Twitter.
hahaha that looks about as much fun as breaking eggs in your palm when they shouldn't break!
