April Mix: < element />

Saturday, April 26, 2008

Hello my friends, below you will find the latest edition of the mix of the month for April.

When making this mix I wanted to make a collection of some sad songs that helped me deal with a tough time in my life, however as the mix started coming together it also took on a surprisingly hopeful feel to it overall which seems fitting in a sense. I wanted to relate that when I experienced the worst pain of my life I also gained an even firmer grasp of my faith which wouldn't have been possible without that experience. The experience of my sorrows made me stronger and gave an even greater hope for tomorrow to be better than today. Recently I have gone through a number of big changes (all good changes) but sometimes when we go through changes it shakes things up a little bit and these changes caused me to remember where my true hope lies. I hoped to communicate some of that in this mix, enjoy.

  1. Sigur Ros - ( ) - ( )
  2. Bjork - Hyperballad - Post
  3. Johnny Cash - Hurt - The Legend of Johnny Cash
  4. Les Gammas - Outra Vida - Compost One Hundred

-Mike

Hey, I know a bunch of these! I have to confess, after reading your intro I expected to see some Switchfoot Beautiful Letdown in there. I guess maybe that time your life was changed was a different time.

I love that Johnny Cash song, and of course Snow Patrol is always a good call. (They're kind of like the new Coldplay, except not as good. Do you ever feel that way?) Props on JJ Heller, although you STILL have her other CD that belongs to me. :p And of course I must express unequivocable support for anything X&Y. Not sure about Bjork though... do you remember her swan costume at the Oscars five or so years ago? And her movie Dancer In The Dark? Creepy stuff....

P.S. Thanks for your comment on my listening page--and for listening to the River of Worship stuff! It's awesome, huh?
AJ, thanks for the comment. No, beautiful letdown was during a very different but other very important period of my life. Some of the music (although not all) in mix relates when I definitely experience a beautiful letdown of sorts after my last relationship.

Switchfoot changed my life during probably the second year of college for me. There is probably no other album that caused a bigger life perspective shift for me than beautiful letdown, definitely in my top ten.

Haha, there have been times where I felt like Snow Patrol is a not as good version of Coldplay, but I am beyond that now and I accept them as they are, great and unique if you listen closer.

Bjork is Scandinavian, so you can't hate on her. Plus, I saw her live at coachella in the swan suit and all, listen again to her. Her music is compelling, I think. I don't think you can say she is not creative, can you?

The JJ Heller song is the 2nd killer in this mix next to the Johnny Cash cover. That song is amazing. I couldn't remember if I had bought that cd or if it was yours. I wonder if she has put anything new out? I will find your cd, remind me to give it back to you next time I see you.

And you know what X&Y does to me, I'd love to know a count of how many times we happened to be listening to that album together, that would be cool. Kingdom Come, was a perfect ending to my cd.
