My Website Selling Experiment
Friday, July 27, 2007
So apparently all of the sudden I randomly got myself in the domain name selling business. Crazy, huh? It all started when I was shopping for domains for our road trip site when I stumbled upon this site and saw that the blog site gibraltar.com was selling for $400,000. Which made me think that it might be a fun experiment to try sell domain names considering how cheap domain names are right now. So me selling domain names is more of a random experiment than intense effort to acquire wealth, but we will see what happens and I will keep you updated (it very well could be a lame get-rich-quick scheme but we will see). If you want try to do it too, the details on how to do it are below. Also, if you'd like you can wait and see what happens with me before you give it a try, I will try to keep you updated.
Here we go!

P.S. Maybe if someone buys one of my sites for a lot of money I will be able to finance our entire Journey Into the Heart of America road trip by myself! haha. Or if I really hit it big I may be able to finance our next trip as well A Journey into the Heart of America vs. Europe - Full Throttle. We will see. :p

Here is how you can sell domains too:
So I basically have no experience with this but it appears that some people have made a ton of money doing it, so for me it is worth a go. In my understanding of how domain name buying works, it is kinda like buying land: normally its value will increase over time as less and less of it is available, therefore it seems like a pretty solid investment.
So here are the domain names I am selling now:
moneyestates.com
eprofitplans.com
debtguards.com
marketsguard.com
marketsmoney.com
internalsale.com
americantrip.org (It is for sale now but I may or may not end up selling this one as I originally bought it as an option for the road trip).
iroadtrip.org (same as above, I'm still undecided).

Here is how you can sell domains too:
- Go to bustaname.com a free new tool that helps you come up with website names, just type in any words that come to your mind that you might want to use to make a website and hit enter. When you find a site that you'd like to have for yourself or you'd like possibly buy in the hopes of reselling it click 'save'.
- When you have found a site you like click 'buy'. They have a number of options of where to buy from, I personally recommend 1and1.com because they are the cheapest (only $6 for a .com and $3 for a .info) and they are really easy to use especially for putting your blog on your own domain name. So yeah the domain names are super cheap considering what they could sell for once someone resells them.
- And then once you have bought your domain name you can list it for free at sedo.com which is simple, just follow the directions. And then what they do is auction it off to the highest bidder.

(I love that the first comment on your post is one you left.)
You're crazy, dude. Were you always this tech-crazy, or has it just been over the summer since you've left our apartment?
I hope you can make your independent millions by selling internet domain names. If you want to make my independent millions too, feel free to go ahead. I feel like domain name selling is probably like eBay selling--something people say is easy, and makes good money, but which I was always too lazy to really look into.

Dude, you are so cool. I love your sense of enthusiasm and adventure. I will be interested in finding out how this all turns out. It would be really cool if you got rich. But even if you don't, at least you've still got big muscles and you're still my boyfriend!
hahaha. :)

hahaha, I love that you already have a name for the sequel!
Good luck on all of your endeavors!

Any success?
Ryan, thanks for asking. I've had no success as of yet in selling the sites. However, buying domain names is like buying a piece of property you can just hold onto it till there is no property left and it will rise in value.
Although, also to be fair I'm not really looking to buy any other sites at this time (I thought that they may sell much sooner than they have) but rather am looking for ways to develop websites out of each of them that may be businesses one day.
I feel like each of the sites that I have are great locations and that I just need to figure out a way to use them that would benefit people online. I'm thinking through several ideas for each of them.
